Essential Functions
  • Plans, organizes, directs and assists the Controller within the department of General Accounting
  • Prepares and/or directs the preparation of the hospital's financial statements at the end of each accounting period. Analyzes or otherwise answers any queries from the Controller regarding the financial statements.
  • Directs the General Accounting staff in the accumulation and analysis of the Hospitals' financial and statistical information both for the current accounting period and year to date.
  • Monitors the Hospitals' systems of internal accounting control and implements any improvements thereto.
  • Assists with the preparation of the Hospitals' Medicare and Medicaid cost reports.
  • Coordinate to completion all external financial audits by organizations engaged by the Hospital or regulatory authorities.
  • Plans, implements, directs and monitors the use of any new Hospital accounting software system. Assures that General Accounting staff is adequately trained to operate the new systems.
  • Prepares and implements/completes the department's approved goals and objectives in accordance with the Hospitals' strategic plan.
  • Prepares management reports accurately and within the required time frames. Prepares or directs the preparation of responses to all relevant surveys of financial activities especially those requested by regulatory authorities or the S.C.H.A.
  • Maintains all financial records in accordance with established hospital or regulatory record retention requirements.

Job Requirements

Minimum Work Experience
Four years’ experience in an Accounting Department in a computerized environment. Relevant experience in public accounting acceptable. Experience to include at least one year in a supervisory role.
 
Minimum Education
Bachelor Degree with at least 24 hours of accounting coursework. Certified Public Accountant/Certified Managerial Accountant, Master or Business or Accountant required.
