JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education
High School Graduate or Equivalent required.
Certificate of completion of Nurse's Aide course required, CNA license preferred.
BLS required within 30 days of hire.
Required Skills
Verbal and written ability to communicate effectively with other members of the healthcare team.
Maintains harmonious relationships with nursing personnel, medical staff, hospital administration, and other hospital departments.
Ability to handle stress in a positive manner.
Shows interest in job and is dependable to complete job duties.
Ability to understand theory and practice in nursing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Completion of work assignments as delegated by the charge nurse in a safe and effective time frame (including, but not limited to: assist patients with ADLs, take and record vital signs, observation rounds, weigh patients, feed or assist with meals, patient laundry, cleaning common areas) efficiently and accurately.
Takes initiative to move to unassigned work on completion of assigned work.
Interacts in a positive, helpful manner with patients, visitors, physicians, volunteers, and co-workers.
Ability to take appropriate initiative to assure assignments are carried out according to hospital policies and procedures.
Keeps charge nurse appropriately informed of daily activities and developments.
Performs job duties in a kind and courteous manner throughout each customer encounter providing excellent customer service. Interacts in a positive and helpful manner.
Keeps team members informed of patient conditions, changes, and pertinent information.
Consistently maintains composure and adjusts to workflow changes to meet patient care needs.
FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS
Work requires physical ability such as walking, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting heavy objects/patients (patients 300+ pounds), stooping and climbing stairs.
Walking intermittently through halls of hospital and outside.
May be exposed to bad weather when escorting a discharged patient to their vehicle.
Involves mental activity and problem-solving, to include the ability to implement solutions.
May be exposed to injury by irrational or disturbed patients, patients with communicable diseases, and/or potentially dangerous equipment.
Risk of exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous materials.
Exposure to blood, body fluid and hazardous wastes is moderate to frequent and must carry out universal precautions according to hospital policy.
Bending required frequently, 45-90 degree angles, to check patients, to operate machinery.
Speech, hearing, reading, writing and visual acuity necessary in order to perform job requirements.
