The registered nurse provides nursing care according to thephysician’s orders and in conformance with the American Nurses Association(ANA) Standards of Practice and Care, ANA Code of Ethics, unit specificstandards, Patient Care policies and procedures, unit specific policies andprocedures, and the Virginia Nurse Practice Act.  The RN is responsible and accountable forindividual, autonomous nursing practice and determines the appropriatedelegation of tasks and nursing activities in accordance with the NursePractice Act.

Responsible for planning activities in an organized,accountable manner; which includes coordinating adequate 24-hour nursingcoverage, planning patient care in an organized, accountable manner, evaluatingpatient care outcome, and collaborating with hospital Human Resourcesinterdepartmentally and intra-departmentally. Responsible for providing leadership and direction in accordance withorganizational and departmental philosophy and goals.  Provides leadership coverage, accountabilityand oversight of Women & Children’s (LD, OB/NSY, Peds) as appointed byDirector.

Job Requirements

Graduate from a school of professional nursing.  B.S. degree preferred.  Minimum of two (2) year of RN clinicalexperience in Labor and Delivery department required.  Minimum two (2) years supervisory/management orCharge Nurse experience required, preferably in a patient care setting.  Clinical experience, competence, andexpertise in area of specialty desirable.  Current licensure or eligible as a RegisteredNurse from the Virginia State Board of Nursing or compact state. Current AmericanHeart Association (AHA) BCLS required. AHA ACLS and PALS certification and Neonatal ResuscitationProgram (NRP) required or obtained within the first 6 months of hire.  AWHONN Fetal Monitoring required.
