SOVAH Health - Martinsville

Conducts the Nurse Residency Program for New Grad Nurses.  Acts as clinical resource in evidence based nursing practice.  Functions both autonomously and in collaboration with other healthcare staff to manage and support care of the acutely ill patients, while promoting best nursing practices.  Plans, designs, implements and evaluates both patient specific and population based programs of care.  Monitors staff development of new products and equipment used in the delivery of patient care.

Job Requirements

Education:  Graduate from school of professional nursing with current licensure as a Registered Nurse from the Virginia State Board of Nursing, or compact state.  Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred. Certification in specialty preferred. Current BLS and ACLS cards required, PALS, if appropriate.  Instructor credentials for BLS and ACLS within 12months of hire.  PALS credentials for instructor, within 18 months of hire, if appropriate.

Experience:  Familiarity with acute care including departmental function, organizational structure, and regulatory standards preferred.  Knowledge of the Continuous Quality Improvement Process. Minimum of five years of experience in professional nursing in which leadership ability has been demonstrated.

Skills:  Previous teaching experience desirable. Ability to work under stress. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing effectively and tactfully. Ability to maintain emotional control. Demonstrates ethical and professional behavioral characteristics and attitude. Regular and reliable attendance. Ability to get along with co-workers. Flexibility in adapting to changing work demands and priorities.

Typical Physical Demands:  Requires full range of motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye hand coordination.  Requires sitting, standing or walking or extensive periods of time.  Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds.  Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.  Requires working under stressful conditions and/or irregular hours.  Potential for exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
