The registered nurse provides nursing care according to the physician’s orders and in conformance with the American Nurses Association (ANA) Standards of Practice and Care, ANA Code of Ethics, unit specific standards, Patient Care policies and procedures, unit specific policies and procedures, and the Virginia Nurse Practice Act.  The RN is responsible and accountable for individual, autonomous nursing practice and determines the appropriate delegation of tasks and nursing activities in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act.

Responsible for planning activities in an organized, accountable manner; which includes coordinating adequate 24-hour nursing coverage, planning patient care in an organized, accountable manner, evaluating patient care outcome, and collaborating with hospital Human Resources interdepartmentally and intra-departmentally.  Responsible for providing leadership and direction in accordance with organizational and departmental philosophy and goals. 

Job Requirements

Graduate from a school of professional nursing.  B.S. degree preferred.

Minimum of one (1) year of RN clinical experience in a critical care setting.  Minimum two (2) years supervisory/management or Charge Nurse experience required, preferably in a patient care setting.  Clinical experience, competence, and expertise in area of specialty desirable.

Current licensure or eligible as a Registered Nurse from the Virginia State Board of Nursing or compact State. Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification required.  ACLS required or must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
