Job Description:
  1. Responsible for reviewing Medical Record and accurately assigning diagnosis and procedure codes using 3M Codefinder
  2. Performs abstracting of appropriate information in the Inpatient Medical Record
  3. Submits physician queries when clarification of documentation is needed
  4. Works closely with our CDS (Clinical Documentation Specialist)
  5. Participates in CARDS reviews (flagged charts) and reviews charts with original coder when there is a difference of opinion on coding
  6. Monitors unbilled Inpatient accts on QS report and “wait for” queues and assists with processing working DRGS as needed
  7. Maintains quality and productivity standards
  8. Attends coding meetings, conference calls, etc as required
  9. Adherence to all core measure initiatives, patient safety goals, and NQF Safe Practices

Job Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management preferred.
  • CCS, RHIA or RHIT preferred
  • 2 years of hospital coding (inpatient or outpatient based on assigned role) experience required
  • Knowledge of NCCI edits and modifier application preferred
