The Controller is to assist the hospital Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in safeguarding hospital assets and ensuring the financial statements, including the books and records, are prepared and maintained in accordance with GAAP.  Like the CFO, the Controller is responsible for ensuring compliance with company financial and accounting policies and procedures and also ensuring internal controls are effective in both design and operation, including the routine monitoring of controls.  The Controller is to ensure the monthly close deadlines are timely met, account reconciliation and supporting documentation is maintained for all activities, account analysis is performed, prepares various packages as requested (e.g., cost report, tax, etc.), and to assist in various projects as requested. The Controller is to assist the CFO who is responsible for the identification and independent assessment of financial risk, establishment and monitoring of mitigation plans, and for the communication of financial risk and opportunity to the regional CFO and hospital CEO.  The Controller is to assist the CFO in the monitoring of the financial performance and the maintenance of reasonable and appropriate financial plans and forecasts.   • Ensures compliance with both internaland external standard accounting practices: 1.) Applies GAAP principals; 2.) Reviews internal accounting policies and provides education to theorganization and related entities as appropriate;  3.) Stays attune to activities within the Internal Audit department to ensurecompliance;  4.) Proactively identifiesRisk within the organization and related entities as wells as identifies waysto mitigate Risk; 5.)  Completes annualaudit/risk assessments;   6.)  Ensures SOX compliance and regularly reviewsand audits practices within the organization and affiliates.
  • Oversees the Month End close processfor the organization and related entities: 1. Ensures all journal entries are reviewed and appropriate, haveadequate support, and have the required approver per policy.  2. Balance sheet reconciliations are completed in a timely manner andapproved with appropriate documentation per policy.  3. Completion of all required reporting and analysis during the closeprocess.  4.  All regional and corporate deadlines are metper published schedule.
  • Oversees the Budget/Forecast processfor organization and related entities: 1. Completes the annual budget in timely and accurate fashion for CFOreview and approval.  2.  Completes all quarterly forecasts in a timelyand accurate fashion for CFO review and approval.  3. Provides insight and analysis on improvements to the budget process andindividual department performance. 4.  Works with the directors oncompletion of their respective 3 year plan both operational and capital.
  • Recommendsbenchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance of departmentsto administrative team.
  • Monitorsand analyzes daily operating results against budget:  1. Timely and accurate completion of dailyreporting tools.  2.  Timely and accurate completions of dailyproductivity tools.  To include follow upwith directors on mitigating budget variances and improving scheduling andproductivity within the organization and related entities.
  • Preparefinancial analysis for contract negotiations and product investmentdecisions.  1.  Works with contracts administrator onensuring appropriate analysis is completed and provided for eCats approvalprocess.  2.  Completes pro-forma’s as requested by CFO forprojects both capital and non-capital related.
  • Establishand implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies,and operating procedures.
  • Design,establish, and maintain an organizational structure and staffing to effectivelyaccomplish the department's goals and objectives.

Job Requirements

Education Required:
Bachelor’s Degree, major concentration inAccounting/Finance is required
Experience Required:
Previous experience in finance is required
Previous managerial experiences is preferred
Previous experience in a hospital setting is preferred
Licensure/Certification Required:
CPA is preferred
