SUMMARY: 
The Director of Health Information Management is responsible for the planning, directing, and the daily operations of the Health Information Management Department. This includes release of information, prepping, scanning and indexing, record completion, transcription, abstracting, coding, documentation improvement, maintenance, and storage of medical information. Provides the hospital with the necessary support and management of information as it pertains to all facets of health information management, and all related activities generated from the medical record to ensure compliance with accreditation and regulatory agencies.

Essential Functions:
1. Orients, trains and in-services HIM employees on departmental policies and procedures.
2. Evaluates employee performance both quantitatively and qualitatively on an ongoing basis.
3. Evaluates workload and adjusts staffing patterns to ensure departmental goals are met.
4. Overseas medical record reconciliation, verifying that each visit is accounted for.
5. Performs random quality reviews of documents in the HPF system.
6. Documents findings of reviews and shares results with clerks for correction and education.
7. Validates the accuracy and completeness of medical records in HPF.
8. Communicates with providers regarding medical record documentation requirements to ensure charts are completed in compliance with regulatory, accreditation and hospital guidelines.
9. Uses HPF Reporting to manage provider deficiencies in accordance with medical staff bylaws.
10. Super user for HPF and JDI Tracker.
11. Ensures staff uses established release of medical information procedures when faxing and releasing patient information.
12. Performs duties as necessary in the absence of subordinates or during periods of heavy workload.
13. Manages and orders office supplies.
14. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.

Job Requirements

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Associate’s Degree in Health Information Management
Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management

Experience
2 yrs experience in a Health Information Management Department
2 yrs supervisory experience (Director-level, preferred)

Licensure / Certification
CPR according to CCH policy (Preferred)
RHIA or RHIT Certification (Preferred)

Other Minimum Abilities / Aptitudes
Ability to use computer (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Able to work on smoke-free campus
