Twenty Four hour accountability for all the department including: effective performance, management, communication, resource management, and leadership. Utilizes the nursing process including; assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and recording of patient care. Teaches, delegates, and supervises other nursing staff in the provision of care. Coordinates services with other members of the healthcare team to provide complex patient care. Practices within the scope of the North Carolina Nurse Practice Act and Person Memorial Hospital policies/procedures/standards.

  • Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical,administrative, legal, and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization.
  • Directs and evaluates departmental operations, including patient care delivery, information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management, to achieve performance and quality control objectives.
  • Plans and monitors staffing activities, including hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions, and continuing education initiatives.
  • Prepares, monitors, and evaluates departmental budgets, and ensures that the department operates in compliance with allocated funding. Coordinates and directs internal/external audits.
  • Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth.
  • Integrates evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols.
  • Identifies potential safety hazards in work areas and takes appropriate action to ensure safety of self and others.
  • Maintain and coordinate communication among patient, family members, staff and physician as evidenced within medical record and patient.

FLSA: Exempt

Job Requirements

Minimum Education:

Associate Degree required or Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree preferred from an accredited school of nursing.

Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and ACLS required upon hire.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 90 days of hire for nurses working in the Emergency Department or Intensive Care Unit.

Specialty certificate in Emergency Department or management preferred.

Required Skills:

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required upon hire.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 90 days of hire for nurses working in the Emergency Department or Intensive Care Unit.

Specialty certificate in Emergency Department or management preferred.

Licenses: Current North Carolina Registered Nurses License
