The ED Tech I will function under the direction of the Charge Nurse from each shift.  The Charge Nurse will assign the area to work in as well as breaks, etc. The ED Tech I will assist Physicians and ED personnel with obtaining vital signs, EKG’s, phlebotomy as well as performing minor treatments as defined by RN and Physician. Responsibilities also include stocking supplies and performing clerical and other duties commensurate with their training and experience as needed. The ED Tech I will assist the Triage and Charge Nurse with ensuring the safety of all patients, family, and staff in the ED through excellent communication and assessment skills. The ED Tech I   must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.  The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's / area's / department's policies and procedures. The ED Tech I will at all times present a positive professional appearance and attitude to all persons within the Emergency Department and the medical center.

Job Requirements

Education: High school graduate or equivalent and currently listed with the NCDepartment of Facility Services as a Nursing Assistant I. The ED Tech I will beencouraged to obtain the status of NA II listing with the NCBON within oneyear.  BCLS is required.

Experience: The ED Tech I should have acute care patient experience and demonstrateexcellent critical thinking and assessment skills. Experience working in ahigh-energy team oriented environment with high acuity patients is preferred.The ED Tech I should have demonstrated excellent customer service skillsworking with patients and families under stress. Excellent communication skillsare required
