Person Memorial Hospital

Provides guidance to field locations in the handling of layoffs, staff reduction, terminations of employees with more than two years' service, and local employee relations issues.
Assists plants with interpretation of labor agreement contract language. Acts as the company representative at third-step grievances. Presents company's case at arbitration.
Monitors development in safety, occupational health, and workers' compensation issues. Advises plants of changes that affect them and, on significant changes, works with the director of training to develop management and employee awareness training programs on new regulations.
Acts as the company's ranking representative in dealing with federal agencies such as OSHA, EEOC, etc. Coordinates presentation of company's position to these agencies.
Actively participates in the management of problem workers' compensation claims. Reviews and approves all settlement offers in workers' compensation cases. Coordinates contacts with loss control service organizations and workers' compensation carriers.
Leads program coordination and preparation for company's annual safety conference.
Develops model affirmative action plans for the company and reviews completed plans at each location for compliance with government requirements and company policy.
Reviews new and revised job descriptions to ensure compliance with company policy and government requirements, including the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Attends quarterly management meetings and annual sales, distribution, and R & D meetings as employee relations department representative.
Substitutes in the absence of the vice president of employee relations.
Adheres to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and TJC standards and /or standards from other accrediting bodies.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education

Bachelor's degree in business administration required, master's degree or law degree desirable. Other educational backgrounds will be considered.

Minimum Work Experience
A minimum of five years' experience in human resources, preferably in a position overseeing government compliance.
Required Skills
Good organizational and supervisory skills to supervise diverse operations with differing needs and problems.
Good communications skills to present the company's position to different management groups, union representatives, and government officials.
