1. Performs head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy.
2. Adequately assesses and reassesses pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management
techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
3. Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific for the patient’s age.
4. Demonstrates knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on the age
of the patient and the patient’s clinical condition.
5. Follows the 6 rights of medication administration to reduce the potential for medication errors.
6. Formulates, implements and revises the patient’s plan of care based on the patient’s diagnosis and clinical symptoms.
7. Formulates, implements and revises the patient’s educational plan.
8. Assists physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills.
9. Performs treatments and provides services to the level of licensure.
10. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and
reduces the likelihood of errors.
11. Coordinates and supervises patient care.
12. Meets current documentation standards and policies.
13. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and address psychosocial,
cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of the patients and their families.
14. Communicates clearly and professionally with all members of the health care team.
15. Notifies physicians in a timely manner of changes in the patient’s condition and response to
treatment.
16. Maintains a good working relationship and treats others with respect within the department
and with all other hospital departments.
17. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
18. Educates patient and family on disease process.
19. Follows all evidence based medicine and core measures as supported by Maria Parham Health.
20. Utilizes supplies and resources in a cost effective manner.
21. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education
Successful completion of the Nursing Diploma Program or an Associates Degree in Nursing from an accredited school is required.
Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) is required through American Heart Association (AHA) ; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) are required within 6 months of employment. Requires a current North Carolina or compact state Registered Nurse license upon hire. Handle with care is preferred.
Minimum Work Experience
1 year of experience in a health care setting is preferred.
