The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) is a licensed professional who works under the supervision and direction of a licensed Physical Therapist (PT). The PT conducts the initial evaluation and establishes the plan of care for the patient. The PTA implements the plan of care, consulting the PT as indicated for clarification or further instruction. He/She may supervise other PTA's or physical therapy aides. He/She performs appropriate administrative duties and participates in educational programs as assigned or approved by the Clinical Coordinator and/or Director of Rehabilitation Services.
This position will be located at Swain Community Hospital in Bryson City, associated with Harris Regional Hospital in Sylva, NC.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Education:  Graduation from an accredited program of Physical Therapist Assistant.                                                                                      
B.  Experience: None required. One to two years experience in general hospital environment preferred. 
C. Other Qualifications: 
       1. Position requires Physical Therapist Assistant license in North Carolina and a current NC Driver's License.         
       2. Continuing education in areas of treatment procedures is recommended and will be encouraged.
       3. American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification maintained

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physically, the PTA is required to assist in moving and lifting patients; to push/pull heavy objects (e.g. wheelchairs or stretchers); to stay on his/her feet for long periods; to bend and stoop; and to reach above shoulder height. Patients may vary in size from as little as 80 pounds to as large as 400 pounds and may be totally dependent in all aspects of daily living or relatively independent.  There is limited exposure to infectious materials and diseases.
