Job Description for LPN - Intermediate Care Unit:
  1. Direct patient to proper exam/treatment room; prepare patients for examinations and other procedures, complete H&Ps and take vitals.
  2. Assist physician with procedures as directed, when necessary, remove sutures and apply steri-strips, collect, label and document specimens and transport to laboratory for frozen sections, log all biopsy results; send copy to appropriate physician.  Mix medications, give injections and is competent with IVs.
  3. Instruct patients in all appropriate procedures.
  4. Maintain, clean and/or sterilize medical equipment and instruments.
  5. Utilize electronic health record for patient work-ups and tasks assigned.
  6. Order and maintain inventories of supplies; set up stock areas for daily use; clean exam rooms between patient visits.
  7. Evaluate daily schedules to accommodate patient flow; obtain necessary charts and charge tickets.
  8. Post test results and physician dictation in patient charts; complete charge tickets, if necessary.
  9. Receive chart requests and arrange transfer to other clinic departments.
IMCU- Frye’s Intermediate Care Unit consists of 13 beds and is an ICU step down unit.  The Intermediate nursing team cares for a variety of monitored patients including those with cardiac and neurological conditions, providing valuable experience for a future in critical care nursing if desired. The American Heart Association has awarded Frye the Get with the Guidelines Gold plus Heart Failure Award and the Gold Stroke Award.   If you prefer a smaller unit with complex cases and exceptional teamwork, Intermediate may be the unit for you.

Job Requirements

Current State LVN/LPN nursing license.
Current CPR certification.
