POSITION SUMMARY:

The DBA Managing Engineer, Infrastructure Services is responsible for the production databases and ensures they are highly optimized, highly available, and operate at peak performance within Health Informatics & Technology Services (HITS) infrastructure services.  Leads DBA team, responsible for the build, design, maintenance, optimal performance and security infrastructure systems, tools and processes while acting as primary enterprise wide forward facing contact to all Health Support Center (HSC) and facility employees.

  • Work under enterprise Engineering team to establish overall SQL Server and Database vision and directionAct as subject matter expert for more than one information system, tool or process providing expertise, guidance, and standardization across LifePoint as well as with acquired entities
  • Design, implement and maintain SQL Server database systems, working with database administrators, software developers, data architects and infrastructure engineers to create optimized and create scalable solution
  • Expert-level knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server from architecture to administration including design, development, and optimization, and licensing of SQL Server databases. Hands-on and will lead the current DBA team technically

  • Design and implement multi-environment SQL Server databases in support of multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to never-fail production systems
  • Design robust but flexible maintenance plans to ensure the databases are fully optimized, secured backed up and fully monitored 24x7
  •  Ensure the database systems have ample storage and memory capacity as they grow and they are protected always with the proper security layers
  • Support the DBA team as needed with the scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours
  • Review and rewrite database changes or maintenance scripts (e.g. re-indexing) provided by other DBAs or third party application development vendors as needed
  • Monitor and audit database backups and restores as well as periodic testing to ensure RPO/RTO service level agreements are being met
  • Plan and manage the execution of the database migrations to newer operating system versions, and the database environment mergers during the acquisitions
  • Serves as the escalation point for operational issues for HSC and facilities.
  • Understand strategic vision of HITS Infrastructure Services department and align system and / or application to support and advance vision and business objectives.
  • Partner with facility IT staff to bring resolution to any issues or escalations and to optimize application or system use.
  • Create and implement standard operating procedures and processes for the department and enforce departmental policy compliance
  • Develop workflow and methodology process to support infrastructure system, tool or process.
  • Primary point of contact for strategic technology vendor relationships, ensure vendor accountability and alignment to business objectives. 
  • Understand and evaluate applicable risk associated with assigned information system, tool or process and provide guidance to leadership.
  • Provide business leadership support in areas of procurement, budget recommendations, and forecasting for specific information system, tool or process. 
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Exhibit an understanding of healthcare regulatory and compliance (e.g., HIPAA).  Skilled in the application of policies and procedures.  Knowledge of Business Office Standards and Recommended Practices. 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Supervise the work of all DBA's, including planning, assigning and scheduling work, reviewing work and ensuring quality standards, training staff and overseeing productivity. May offer recommendations for hiring, termination and pay adjustments, but do not have final responsibility for making these decisions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.
  • High School Diploma or GED  
  • Minimum 5 years of Database Administration experience; experience working in multi-facility healthcare information services department; minimum 1 year of supervisory experience required.
Skills and Abilities:

Business Mathematical Skills -- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and to draw and in-terpret graphs.  Not applicable.

Advanced Technical Computer Skills -- Utilize complex computer operations (intermediate / advance program-ming, relational databases, and operating systems) and advanced features of software packages.
