St Francis Hospital

Under general supervision and according to established procedures, assign diagnostic codes to health information records.  Evaluate medical records to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with the International Classification of Diseases Manual – Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM & ICD-10-CM) and the American Medical Associations Current Procedural Termination (CPT) Manual.  Code charts under the ICD-9-CM & ICD-10-CM and CPT.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education: High school diploma orequivalent required; Associate's degree in Health Information Technology orrelated field preferred; Graduate of a Program in Medical Terminology and ICDcoding preferred

Required Skills: Requires critical thinkingskills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.Must have thorough understanding of ICD-10 Official Coding Guidelines forCoding and Reporting and AHA Coding Clinic; HCPCS/CPT coding systems and CPTAssistant and Coding Clinic for HCPCS guidelines; Medicare OutpatientProspective Payment System (OPPS), and Ambulatory Payment Classification (APC);Has knowledge of and abides by HIM.COD policies.

Certifications: Certified Coding Specialist(CCS) through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) orCertified Professional Coder (CPC)/(CPC-H) through AAPC

Minimum WorkExperience: Two (2) years of medical coding experience.
