Responsiblefor the processing of laboratory specimens and reporting of results in allareas of the clinical laboratory. Maintains laboratory records. Follows laboratory policies andprocedures; maintains quality control practices in the Laboratory. Performspatient specimen analysis for diagnostic purposes, under the supervision of amedical technologist or section leader. Enters all results into the computer system.  Maintains laboratory inventory.  Collects and processes specimens in bloodbank, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, serology/immunology, phlebotomy,drug screen collections.

Essential Functions:
  1. Abilityto function in all areas of the clinical laboratory: blood bank, chemistry,hematology, microbiology, serology/immunology, phlebotomy, drug screencollections.
  2. Responsiblefor performing high-complexity testing.
  3. Performsassigned key operator duties which may include QA, QI, procedure manualdevelopment and review, proficiency testing, QC monitoring, review of reportedresults, or other routine data review and equipment selection.
  4. Altersor adjusts methods and procedures for the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adultand geriatric patient.
  5. Performsquality control procedures and instrument checks.
  6. Operatesand maintains equipment correctly and safely, including calibration ofinstruments.
  7. Respondsto outliers and trends according to departmental policies and procedures.
  8. Demonstratesknowledge of expected lab values and responses to outliers and trends accordingto departmental policies and procedures.
  9. Demonstratesknowledge of expected lab results for the infant, pediatric, adolescent, adultand geriatric patient.
  10. Reportscritical values according to laboratory policies and procedures.
  11. Maintainsaccurate laboratory records on procedures performed for statistics and billing.
  12. Interactsprofessionally with the Director of Clinical Laboratory, Pathologist, clinicallaboratory personnel, patients, visitors, and staff.
  13. Consultswith other departments, as appropriate, to collaborate in patient care andperformance improvement activities.
  14. Performsall aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety andreduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  15. Responsiblefor inventory of reagents and supplies in the laboratory, reports neededsupplies to the designated responsible party.
  16. Initiatesthe meeting of responsibilities without prompting.
  17. Demonstratesthe values of team concept on a consistent basis.
  18. Communicatesverbally in a clear and concise manner.
  19. Submitssuggestions to improve the laboratory’s efficiency.
  20. Performsclerical work; is able to input and retrieve lab results in the computersystem.
  21. Completes work within designated time.

Job Requirements


Bachelor of Sciencedegree in Medical Technology, Chemistry or Biology.

Required Certification: 
Certification as a Medical Technologist orMedical Laboratory Scientist by the ASCP or equivalent agency Preferred.
