Performs magnetic resonance imagingprocedures and produces images for interpretation by a radiologist.  Procedures will be performed according todepartmental protocols, policies and procedures and established standards ofpractice. Assesses and monitors patients, and provides appropriate patientcare.  Must demonstrate competency in MRIsafety practices with special attention given to screening patients forcontraindications prior to scanning.

Essential Functions:
  1. Maintainsknowledge of the needs of patients according to their age group anddemonstrates the ability to modify care according to the patient’s age.  Must recognize and meet the special needs andconcerns of both pediatric and geriatric patients.
  2. Verifiespatient identification, confirms physician orders, obtains patient history /forms, assesses patient condition, explains procedures, provides patienteducation, and addresses patient concerns prior to performing exams.
  3. Assuresproper completion of all exams requested including documentation, charging, andproper labeling of images.
  4. PerformsMRI exams which requires independent judgment and utilization of properpositioning, protocol, and techniques to obtain a diagnostic quality images tomeet radiologist specifications. Identifies normal anatomy and/or unusual findings.
  5. Demonstratesproficiency in the operation and proper handling of all diagnosticequipment.  Maintains all equipment andaccessories in efficient operating order; performs equipment QC. Ensures preventativemaintenance is performed as required, contacts service for repairs whennecessary.
  6. Maintainsknowledge of contrast media and medications utilized within the departmentincluding contraindications and possible side effects.  Demonstrates the ability to prepare andadminister contrast according to departmental protocols.  Recognizes significant adverse reactions andacts appropriately.
  7.  1.       Assistsradiologists/physicians with procedures as required.  Ensures that Standard Precautions and steriletechniques are utilized.
  8. Maintainscommunication and cooperation with radiologist and other ancillary departmentsregarding changes in protocol, scheduling of procedures, exams performed andpatient flow.
  9. Demonstratesthe ability to operate all computer systems utilized within the department.
  10. Maintainsorderliness and cleanliness of work areas, ensures rooms are stocked, andprepares rooms prior to patient entrance.
  11. Performsclerical duties, provides clinical supervision for students and assists inpatient transport as needed.
  12. Maintainsa safe MRI environment for patient, self and others.
  13. Participatesin departmental performance improvement activities.  May be assigned specific quality assurance /quality control duties.
  14. Rotates within thedepartment and assists where needed. Performs exams in multiple modalities within scope of practice, worksvarious shifts and participates in call rotation as required for the properfunctioning of the department.

Job Requirements


Associate’s degree is preferred

Training commensurate with ARRT MR and Advanced Modality Training inMRI - Required

Required Certification: 
ARRT Certification in Radiography is preferred
ARRT Certification in MRI is required
American Heart Association BLS is required
