The Clinical Administrative Assistant assembles and maintains all oncology records according to hospital policy. Responsible for registration, scheduling, transcriptions, and charges. Directs telephone communications within the oncology center as well as contacting other physicians. Provides age specific care for the oncology patient. Assures confidentiality of patient information, departmental, and hospital policies. Verifies patient identification during the registration process. Practices infection control and participates in Quality Assurance activities. Procures information for the patient’s medical record. Ability to get along with co-workers and is flexible in adapting to changing work demands and priorities.

Job Requirements

Education:   High School graduate or equivalent; College course/experience in transcribing medical terminology preferred; Basic computer skills required
Experience:  Experience in word processing skill, Word Perfect preferred
Skills:  Type 60 words a minute; operate transcription equipment, proficient in use of printers and fax machines, regular and reliable attendance, Possesses good communication skills and able to get along with co-workers, adapts well to changing work demands
Typical Physical Demands: Full range of motion of upper and lower extremities.  Moving and/or lifting patients and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.  Pushing equipment > 100 pounds.  Dexterity and eye-hand coordination.  Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal ranges.  Standing and/or walking for extensive periods of time.  Working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.  Potential for exposure to communicable disease and/or body fluid which require the use of body substance
