Job Description

Central Carolina Hospital

Processes, embeds, sections, stains, coverslips, and labels pathology specimens for the purpose of examination by staff pathologists. Maintains instruments, chemicals and work related records. Coordinates the technical, clerical and billing activities of the department. Assists in planning, direction, and control of operations. Works under the general direction of the pathologists and the Administrative Director of the Laboratory.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education


Required

Preferred

Bachelors Degree in biology or chemistry, and completion of accredited histotechnology program

Experience


Required

Preferred

Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of anatomic pathology theory and practice, and apply these skills in clinical and managerial situations.

At least five years of pathology experience in techniques comparable to those performed in this laboratory.

Licensure / Certification

Required

Preferred

Certification as a Histology Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist or equivalent agency.

Other Minimum Abilities / Aptitudes

Able to work independently and provide direction as immediate supervisor for appropriate personnel in Laboratory Director’s absence.

Capable of developing, evaluating and performing laboratory procedures using a high level of independent judgment and critical thinking

Able to maintain a professional attitude at all times with co-workers, physicians, and patients.

Good communication skills.

Basic computer skills.
