Job Description

Haywood Regional Medical Center

•         Fitness tests all potential client’s before personal training sessions begin. 

•         Safely conducts fitness assessments after reviewing client’s health history.

•         Review client’s fitness assessment prior to initial appointment and design fitness program. Develops effective, motivating and challenging exercise programs for all members or clients. Conduct one-on-one appointments and personal training sessions.

•         Tracks client’s progress from start to finish and documents in detail each personal training session and places in client’s file.

•         Member files remain confidential at all times.

•         Serves as a resource for other staff members.

•         General familiarity and promotion of all programs for Haywood Regional Health & Fitness Center and Haywood Regional Medical Center.

•         Assist members on proper usage of cardiovascular and strength equipment as needed.

•         Advise members on safe exercise guidelines according to the American College of Sports Medicine.

•         Knows, understands and enforces all policies and procedures of the Fitness Center. 

•         Advise members of fitness programs, safe and proper technique of all exercise equipment. Clean equipment, and rack weights. Instruct exercise classes/clinics/programs for the Fitness Center, Health Education, and community as assigned by the Fitness Coordinator. 

•         Promote personal training in the fitness center in order to obtain clients through excellent customer service skills. 

•         Adhere to ACSM guidelines for safe exercise participation and do not advise or recommend exercises that are contra-indicated. 

•         Answer specific questions about exercise equipment, sport specific training modalities, and start new and existing members on an individual fitness program. 

Job Requirements

1.                 Educationand Training:  A college degree inexercise science or related field or nationally recognized personal trainercertification.

2.         Experience:     Prefer individuals with knowledge of healthand fitness and at least one year of work experience in wellness, healthpromotion, health club, university and/or community recreation, or hospitalfitness.

Must have excellent customer serviceskills.  Knowledge needed to answerspecific questions about exercise equipment and start new members on anindividual fitness program. 

Basic computer skills necessary to assistin tracking members in data base. Interpersonal skills necessary to greet and provide basic informationabout the  Fitness Center.

Ability to walk and stand for up to 80% ofthe work time and ability to stoop, spot members and lift weights weighing 50+pounds.

3.         Affiliations:     Job related experience in the field ofpersonal training and must possess a current certification in Personal Training(i.e., ACSM, ACE, AFAA, NSCA, or others as approved or college degree in healthand fitness field) C.P.R./AED certification necessary.
