Pharmacy Technician - FT position available.  Must be able to work weekends and holidays.

Major responsibilities / core competencies of the position:

  1. Acts as a courier for retrieving and delivering physician's orders, medications, floor stock items, medication cassettes, narcotic cards, and any necessary paperwork or files.
  2. Answers telephone, takes messages, answers routine non-clinical questions, and refers telephone prescriptions or clinical questions to a licensed pharmacist.
  3. Fills medication orders, refills patient's medications on a unit does cart for the pharmacist to check. 
  4. Fills and refills any prn orders for the pharmacist to check.
  5. Assists in the inventory system by ordering receiving, rotating stock, checking floor stock for out-of-dates, replenishing supplies, and notifying pharmacist of low stock items.
  6. Repackages medications for checking by pharmacist.
  7. Performs clerical duties--drug charges, reports, QI monitoring, filing, computer procedures and end of the month procedures.
  8. Maintain designated work areas and equipment in clean and orderly condition.
  9. Participates in performance improvement activities.
  10. Assesses inventory levels of drug items purchased directly, prepares purchase orders for pharmacists' signature, and orders appropriate quantities.
  11. Telephones vendors for pricing, ordering, and negotiates special deliveries and transfers.
  12. Negotiates drug returns for wholesale returns and select direct accounts as well as through "designated return company."
  13. Assists the Director of Pharmacy in developing and maintaining an accurate filing system.
  14. Miscellaneous assignments to assist or cooperate with hospital employee functions.
  15. Alerts appropriate personnel to any breaches in pharmaceutical drug policies or procedures observed in or outside of the department.
  16. Accomplishes special and non-routine requests by supervisor and professional staff, in accordance with instructions or specifications and time frames.
  17. Prepares IV solutions in accordance with accepted standards and aseptic technique.

Job Requirements

CPht certification Required.

Technician must be certified in TN, commiserate with position. 

Hospital experience preferred.
