Central Carolina Hospital


Responsible for providing medical services to patients of Central Carolina Physician Practices. Such services may include history, physical exams, evaluation of specific illnesses and/or injuries, and planning for the effective treatment of diseases or injuries, both chronic and acute subject to approval from the NC Board of Pharmacy and under the supervision of the medical directors, prescribe medications allowed by the state for their scope of practice.  Perform other services that have traditionally been reserved to physicians.

 Essential Functions:
  1. Must be thoroughly familiar with the principles and practice of a Physician’s Assistant.
  2. Must have a general knowledge of the operation and administration of a medical office, well-developed interpersonal and organizational skills and be very reliable. 
  3. Recognizes and maintains confidentiality of patient records. 
  4. Must be able to perform activities that involve an independent evaluation or treatment of a patient’s condition. 
  5. Must possess background knowledge in the biological, behavioral, medical and nursing services relevant to the practice as a Physician’s Assistant and possess knowledge of the legal, ethical and professional responsibilities of a Physician’s Assistant.  (See Guidelines and Standards of Practice for Physician’s Assistants)
  6. Completes Athena training modules
  7. Utilizes Athena for documentation
  8. Performs office procedures
  9. Completes patient assessments
  10. Completes forms as requested or needed
  11. Accesses computer for patient reports
  12. Makes phone calls as needed
  13. Assumes care for physical/physiological needs of patients of all ages and families during examination
  14. Elicits appropriate present and past medical history and review of systems and documents in EMR
  15. Performs appropriate physical examination and orders appropriate diagnostic studies
  16. Discriminates between normal and abnormal finding in history and physical
  17. Establishes appropriate differential diagnosis
  18. Assesses stability of chronic illness and compliance with present therapy; monitors for complications of disease or therapy
  19. Determines timing for follow-up and orders appropriate referrals.
  20. Establishes appropriate treatment plan.  Assess need for hospitalization or physician intervention.
  21. Counsels regarding health maintenance and disease prevention and provides anticipatory guidance as appropriate.
  22. Assesses learning capabilities and readiness of population or individual and tailors education to meet age, developmental and educational needs.
  23. Prescribes with the practice agreement set forth by supervising physicians.
  24. Completes notes daily and locks within 2 day time frame as standards state.
  25. Addresses tasks/In-Box in a timely manner.

Job Requirements


Graduation from accredited physician assistantprogram.

Required License: 

 Currently licensed asa Physician’s Assistant in the state of North Carolina Licensed by the NCDepartment of Health Professions as a Physician’s Assistant Current nationalcertification by the American Academy of Physician’s Assistants, the AmericanNurses’ Credentialing Center or other credentialing center recognized by theboard.  (See Regulations governing theLicensure of Physician’s Assistants for the State of NC). 

Required Certification
  1. Currentlylicensed as Physician’s Assistant in the state of North Carolina
  2. Currentnational certification by the American Academy of Physician’s Assistants, theAmerican Nurses’ Credentialing Center or other credentialing center recognizedby the board.  (See Regulations governingthe Licensure of Physician’s Assistants for the State of NC)CurrentAuthorization to Prescribe by the State of North Carolina.  
  3. Musthave a current Controlled Substance Registration Certificate.
  4. Current American Heart Association HealthcareProvider BLS.
