Job Summary:
Responsible for timely and accurate pre-registration and insurance verification. The duties of this position are primarily performed via telephone.
Job Responsibilities:

o Retrieves reservation/notification of scheduled services.

o Contacts patients to collect demographic and insurance information.

o Searches MPI completely to ensure assignment of the correct medical record number.  Notifies medical records for any duplicate medical record number(s).

o Verifies all insurance information and obtains pre-cert/authorization, when required by insurance.

o Contacts physician’s office, when necessary, to resolve any issues regarding prior authorization or referral forms.

o Research’s the patients visit history to ensure compliance with Medicare’s 72 hour rule.

o Completes Medicare Secondary Payor Questionnaire as applicable and retains it in the appropriate system for reference.

o Uses the hospitals computer system for making account notes for others to reference, as appropriate.

Job Requirements

Education:  High School Diploma or GED required

Experience:  Previous experience in registration, physician practice setting, or other similar clerical duties is desired. 

Complexity of Work:
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Requires prolonged sitting and some bending, stooping, and stretching. The majority of this position’s duties are performed via telephone. 

Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment.  Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports.  Work is performed in an office environment and involves frequent contact with staff and the public.
