Conemaugh Nason Medical Center is seeking a PRN Surgical Technician for our Outpatient Surgery Department.   The PRN Surg Tech facilitates the operative or other invasive procedure by preparing and providing the required sterile instruments, supplies and equipment. Maintains the sterile field and anticipates and responds to the needs of the surgical team.

Job Requirements

Essential Functions:

Assemble supplies and equipment for the procedure.

Prepare and organize sterile supplies and instruments for the procedure.

Perform accounting procedures in concert with the RN circulator

Assist with placement of sterile drapes.

Provide instruments and supplies to the surgical team during the procedure.

Maintain an organized sterile field. Ensure sterility of the field and take corrective actions as needed

Prepare sterile dressing.

Label and provide medications/fluids as per policy/procedure

Anticipate need for supplies and ask for them to be brought to room.

Protect patient from injury related to improper equipment use or handling (Ie. Electrode placement in holster after each use, etc)

Clean and prepare surgical instruments for processing and transport them to the decontamination areas.

Assist with post-procedure cleaning of the operative or other invasive procedure room and preparation of room for subsequent patients.

Assess set up and supplies to make sure you have everything you need from the start of the procedure.

Attends all mandatory trainings and completes all required Life Talent education assignments within a timely manner. Keeps updated regarding Medical Center changes through meeting attendance and review of posted information; attends briefs, debriefs, and huddles.

Abides by and references the Employee Handbook and other pertinent facility policies, including clinical, non-clinical, safety, and infection control.

Job Requirements:


Graduate of a Program in Surgical Technology required

Required Skills

- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

- Working irregular hours including call hours.

- Computer skills

Required Licenses

Certified Surgical Technologist - Pennsylvania
□ CST certification required with less than 20 years of experience. Certification is not required with 20 years or more of experience.

□ Basic Life Support (BLS)
