Performs imaging procedures (Radiography,CT, Mammography, US, Nuclear Medicine, orMRI) and produces quality images for interpretationby a radiologist. Procedures areperformed according to departmental protocols, policies and procedures andaccording to established standards of practice. Assesses and monitors patients, andprovides appropriate patient care. AnImaging Tech I is required to actively function and meet the requiredqualifications and competencies to function in one modality in addition toradiography. Imaging Tech I’s are requiredto become competent in CT as their additional modality and meet certificationrequirements within 6 months of employment unless already approved for othermodality certifications.
1. Verbalizesand/or demonstrates knowledge of clinical information and practices essentialto assuring provision of age-specific care to all age groups.
2. Verifiespatient identification, confirms physician orders, obtains patient history /forms, assesses patient condition, explains procedures, provides patienteducation, and addresses patient concerns prior to performing exams.
3. Assuresproper completion of all exams requested including documentation, charging, andproper labeling of images.
4. Performsa variety of radiological exams that require independent judgment andutilization of proper positioning, protocols, and techniques to obtain aquality diagnostic image to meet radiologist specifications. Identifies normal anatomy and/or unusualfindings.
5. Demonstratesproficiency in the operation and proper handling of all diagnosticequipment. Maintains all equipment andaccessories in efficient operating order; performs preventative maintenance asrequired, contacts service for repairs when necessary.
6. Maintainsknowledge of contrast media and medications utilized within the departmentincluding contraindications and possible side effects. Demonstrates the ability to prepare andadminister contrast according to departmental protocols. Recognizes significant adverse reactions andacts appropriately.
7. Preparesand assists radiologists/physicians with procedures as required. Ensures that Standard Precautions and steriletechniques are utilized.
8. Maintainscommunication and cooperation with radiologist and other ancillary departmentsregarding changes in protocol, scheduling of procedures, exams performed andpatient flow.
9. Demonstratesthe ability to operate all computer systems utilized within the department.
10. Maintainsorderliness and cleanliness of work areas, ensures rooms are stocked, andprepares rooms prior to patient entrance.
11 Performsclerical duties, provides clinical supervision for students and assists inpatient transport as needed.
12. Practicesradiation safety for patient and self.
13. Participatesin departmental performance improvement activities. May be assigned specific quality assurance /quality control duties.
14. Rotates within the department and performsexams in multiple modalities, works various shifts and participates in callrotation as required for the proper functioning of the department.
RequiredEducation:
ARRT Certification in CT or meets JC Diagnostic ImagingStandards and NC Regulations 10A NCAC 15.0611 – CT Regulations is required
Meets Certification Requirements for other modalities asrequired by regulatory agencies is required
American Heart Association BLS is required
