The Cardiac Cath Lab Registered Nurse is responsible for assisting the cardiologist in diagnostic cardiac catheterizations and interventional procedures on adult patients and providing quality nursing care, assessing and managing patient care in the cardiac catheterization lab, and occasionally in other designated areas within the hospital. Additionally, the Cardiac Cath Lab Registered Nurse will assist the cardiologists in all aspects of invasive cardiology (diagnostic and intervention, if applicable), including scrubbing, circulating, monitoring and recording hemodynamic parameters in accordance to policy and procedure. Employee shall also be responsible for the operation and reporting of results using blood glucose and oxygen saturation devices in accordance with policy and procedure.

Job Requirements

Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

Licensure/Certification: Appropriate state licensure as Registered Nurse. Current BLS certification required. State ACLS certification required within ninety (90) days of employment.

Professional Experience: Minimum 2 years of critical care experience or cardiac catheterization experience and working with hemodynamic waveforms and vaso-active medications is required. Ability to read and recognize EKGs and dysrhythmias required.

Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Ability to manipulate various types of electronic and clinical equipment, adjust and troubleshoot monitoring equipment, IV infusions, and computer equipment. Ability to operate specialty equipment related to area of expertise and to perform computer tasks at a user's level.

Interpersonal Skills: Must possess the ability to interact and to communicate in English, both orally and written, with all levels of staff, physicians, patients and families in an effective manner, based on the patient's ability and willingness to learn. Must be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.

Essential Physical Requirements: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires the following physical abilities to assist in the transfer of patients, movement of medical equipment, wheelchairs, crash carts, and stretchers. Must have the ability to vertically transfer patients from 23†to 36â€, horizontally transfer patients in bed, on stretcher, or on procedure table, and push/pull medical equipment requiring a force up to 40 lbs. a distance of up to 50 feet. Requires repetitive bending throughout shift to access medical equipment and supplies at varying levels of height.
