UP Health System - Marquette

Utilizes high frequency sound waves and other diagnostic techniques to produce and evaluate ultrasound images and related data that are used by physicians to render a medical diagnosis.  Acquires and maintains specialized technical skills and medical knowledge to render quality patient care.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education:
•   Completion of a 2 year America Medical Association (AMA) Allied Health
Preferred Experience:
•   Experience as a sonographer in multiple specialties of diagnostic ultrasound
Required Training:
•   Courses in Diagnostic Ultrasound
Required Certification:
•   Basic Life Support – Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP)
Required Testing:
     •    Ishihara eye screen test for color deficiency
Required Registration:
•   Registered in Diagnostic Ultrasound (RDMS)
    Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) Registered Cardiac
    Sonographer (RCS)
Other Skills:
•   Answers telephone
•   Compiles statistics
•   Coordinates and schedules appointments
•   Inputs data into computer system
•   Uses computer package to maintain patient record
•   Maintains filing system
•   Maintains log
•   Maintains patient charts and folders
•   Hospital computer system and peripheral equipment
•   Diagnostic equipment
•   Basic office equipment; fax, photocopier and calculator
•   Keyboarding
Physical Demands:
•   Moderate physical effort (lift/carry up to 25 lbs.)
•   Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients
•   Prolonged, extensive or considerable standing/walking
•   Occasionally lifting supplies/equipment
•   Pushes/pulls or moves heavy equipment
•   Occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling and crouching
•   Manual dexterity and mobility
Working Conditions:
•   Subject to electrical and radiant energy hazards
•   Exposed to a variety of electro-mechanical hazards
•   Exposed to housekeeping/cleaning agents/chemicals
•   Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances
•   Subject to varying and unpredictable situations

Vision Requirements:
•   Near Acuity - ability to see clearly at 20" or less
•   Depth Perception - ability to judge distance and space relationships
•   Color Vision - ability to distinguish and identify different colors
•   Field of Vision - ability to see peripherally
•   Accommodation - ability to adjust vision to bring objects into focus
Hearing Requirements:
•   Must be able to distinguish the different Doppler signals
Required Protective Equipment:
•   Lab coat
•   Non-sterile medical gloves
•   Eye, face and gown/mask protection when appropriate
