Central Carolina Hospital

Summary:    Providesdirect and indirect patient care in the patient care setting, utilizing thenursing process.  Responsible for thedirection of patient care activities in the department, provides management ofoperational and nursing activities.  Consults with staff, physicians, and department director on operationalproblems and interpretation of hospital policies to ensure patient care needsare met. Manages staff members within the department.  Assists with HR functions such as hiring,counseling, evaluations and scheduling

Basic PC skills. Able to work on smoke-free campus. Able tobe flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.

  1. Assiststhe department director with the day-to-day operation of the department,including the management of patient flow in the department, staffing, andquality monitoring.
  2. Supervisesand evaluates staff members in day to day work, assists them in their educationand growth as members of the Emergency Dept. team.
  3. Attendsand participates in assigned committee’s both Emergency Dept. specific and CCH.
  4. Completesa focused patient assessment based on patient complaint, with reassessmentsbased on patient’s condition, procedures, medications given andtreatments.   
  5. Adequatelyassesses and reassesses pain, utilizing appropriate pain management techniques.
  6. Demonstratesknowledge of medications and their correct administration based on the age ofthe patient and the patient’s clinical condition.  Follows the 6 rights of medicationadministration to reduce the potential for medication errors.
  7. Assistsphysicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manualskills.
  8. Maintainsaccurate and continued nursing documentation including patient histories,conditions, treatments, responses and assessment of changes.
  9. Notifiesphysicians in a timely manner of changes in the patient’s condition andresponse to treatment.
  10. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
  11. Educates patient and family on disease process.

Job Requirements

Require Required Education: 

Associate’s degree is required
Bachelor’s degree is preferred

Required License:

Registered Nurse in North Carolina is required (or compact state)
Required Certification:
American Heart Association BLS is required
ACLS is required

Additional certifications are required by department


1 year of experience in a health care setting is required

1 year of experience as a charge nurse or other management role is preferred
