UP Health System - Bell

Provides direct patientcare to patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scopeand standards of practice.

Performs plan ofcare intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection,clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.

Documents patientcare given.

Monitors, records,and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician,patient, and family.

Assists patientswith performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene,elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.

Collaborates asneeded across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patienttransfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.

Evaluates learningneeds of patient and/or family and provides patient/family educationappropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.

Works as anadvocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.

Followsestablished policies and procedures, objectives, safety standards, andsensitivity to confidential information.

Willing and ableto demonstrate appropriate core competencies annually or as requested.

Completes acomprehensive assessment according to hospital policy as related to managementof emergencies in the Emergency Department.

Patient Triage.

Formulates anursing diagnosis from assessment of patients' acute and chronic healthproblems.

Performs emergencyprocedures according to policy/procedure.

Assesses patientand patient representative's current learning needs and implements appropriatemeasures to meet knowledge deficits.

Demonstratesknowledge based on areas of, but not limited to, standards of care, practiceand professional performance, policies and procedures, medications, lab valuesand legal issues.

Serves on hospitalcommittees and/or participates in Q1 activities as directed by the DepartmentManger.

Assists withorientation of new employees and staff development activities for the unit.

Abides by NursingService Behavior Standards.

Performs additionaljob-related duties and functions as required.

Maintainsconfidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

Support theculture of service excellence throughout the organization.

Actively seek waysto demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and participate inprofessional development opportunities.

Performs otherrelated duties as assigned or requested.

Completes annualeducational requirements.

Understands andadheres to Bell's compliance standards as they appear in Bell's CorporateCompliance Policy,

Code of Conductand Conflict of Interest Policy.


Tasks to beperformed when staff RN is assigned to Charge function on a given shift: Individual assigned to charge isresponsible to assess, plan, direct and evaluate the delivery of care to allpatients in the following areas: Demonstrates ability to work independently. Assessesthe efficiency and effectiveness of care provided on assigned shift andidentifies problems with recommendations for improvement. Directs/supervisesothers in the planning of patient care. Notifies appropriate personnel ofadmissions to patient care unit from Emergency Department. Effectively directsstaff during any emergency situations.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education Graduate of a school of nursing. Currentlicense to practice as an RN in the State of Michigan.Preferred: Bachelor ofScience in Nursing.


Requires criticalthinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimalsupervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and takeappropriate action.

Certifications:  Basic Life Support (BLS),   Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS),  Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS),  Trauma Nursing Course Certified (TNCC)

License:Registered NursePrimary Source Verification: Michigan Board of Nursing.


Minimum WorkExperience Preferred: One year nursing experience.
