RN, Infection Preventionist - PRN Status

The Infection Preventionist (IP) is responsible for the coordination, implementation and evaluation of the Infection Control Plan for the WRMC Enterprise.  The IP performs surveillance and reporting of nosocomial infections, investigation of infection or clusters of infections as warranted, microbiological monitoring of the healthcare environment and remediation / performance improvement as warranted, targeted education, consultation and continued professional development.  Reporting directly to the Chief Patient Safety Officer, the IP is a key leader in regulatory compliance for infection control standards for Joint Commission CMS and Wisconsin DHS.

The scope of this position is all WRMC sites of care including acute care hospital and clinics.  Infection Preventionist’s routinely interact with personnel from nearly all departments, especially those departments which provide direct or indirect patient care or whose responsibilities impact on materials utilized by patients. Educational  efforts aimed at heightening awareness of nosocomial infection, how to minimize infection transmission, and how to minimize occupational risks of infection are provided.

As a community resource, the IP also has routine interaction with outside individuals from varied patient care and public health disciplines related to the control of infection including emerging pathogens.

Job Requirements


Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s preferred in nursing, microbiology and/or public health.

Min of three (3) years of clinical health-care experience relevant to healthcare infection control. Additional education may be substituted in lieu of experience. Five (5) years working in a hospital or in Public Health as a Registered Nurse required.
Experience with surgical settings related to infection control preferred.

Must have an active WI RN license.

CPR (AHA Healthcare Provider) at hire or within 6 months
Certification in Infection Control (CIC) Preferred
