Job Description for Registered Nurse - Pain Clinic:

  1. Assesses patient’s status per unit and organization policies and standard of practice.  Performs initial assessment of patient status (vital signs, O2 sats, temps, weight, BMI), medications, medical history update, new patient information packet, pre-procedural checklist, and motor assessment.  Reports to attending physician or PA.
  2. Implements patient’s plan of care as ordered by physician.  Records all pertinent patient information on summary sheet at each visit.  Performs additional duties as requested by Charge Nurse/ Administrative Director.  Participates in unit/hospital based committees.  Accepts duties with professionalism and keeps other members of team informed of committee information.
  3. Completes pre-procedural assessment.  Performs hand-off communication accurately to appropriate staff and physician per hospital policy and procedure.  Performs time-out before procedure per hospital policy and procedure.  Exhibits skills in sterile technique.  Able to assist physician and operate equipment during fluoroscopy procedures.
  4. Performs nursing competencies with confidence.  Demonstrates ability to recognize and report any change in patient status and initiate life sustaining treatment within scope of practice.
  5. Performs phone triage of patient phone calls.  Completes all required information on phone log.  Performs sound patient assessment and reports to physician.  Able to give knowledgeable patient instruction of medications and pre- and post-procedure care.
  6. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates treatment based on age specific criteria and provides care appropriate to the age of the patients served (neonate/infant, toddler, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).  Completes yearly required .edu course on age specific patient care.
  7. Administers medication accurately and within the guidelines of organization’s established policies.  Administers IV therapy within the guidelines and policies of organization and unit.  Knowledgeable of medication side effects and skilled in responses to adverse reaction.

Job Requirements

Current RN license issued by the State of North Carolina.

Must maintain current CPR certification.

ACLS and PALS certifications preferred.
