Central Carolina Hospital

The primary responsibility of the Perinatal Safety Nurse is to promote safe care for mothers and babies by keeping patient safety as a focus on all unit operations and clinical practice. This position works collaboratively in the perinatal area with the Director of OB and the CNO.

Essential Duties:
1. Performs duties as assigned and requested.
2. Facilitate adherence to national physician and nursing perinatal clinical standards and promotes perinatal patient safety.
3. Provides formal and informal perinatal safety education.
4. Facilitates goal-setting and ensures data collection is completed as required.
5. Actively participates in unit’s goals and objectives is expected.
6. Active participant in labor and delivery leadership decisions.
7. Actively participates in the hospital wide patient safety and clinical quality committee meetings and related initiatives.
8. Proactively liasises with risk management and patient safety regarding perinatal safety issue identification, adverse events, and perinatal safety initiatives.
9. Provides regular progress updates to the CNO.
10. Ensures all perinatal safety approaches, tools, and practices are consistent with those defined and led by risk management and patient safety.
11. Actively participates in the care of patients in all areas of the obstetrical service line.

Job Requirements

Required Education:
Associates Degree in Nursing

Required License:
Current unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina (or compact state)

Required Certification:

-Current American Heart Association BLS is required
-Current American Heart Association Advance Life Support (ACLS)
-American Academy of Pediatrics Neonatal Resusciatation (NRP)
-Fetal Monitoring National Certification within six(6) months of hire

Required Experience:

-Five(5) years of inpatient Obstetrical clinical experience within the last two(2)
-Strong clinical knowledge base and clinical skills in electronic fetal monitoring,
labor, birth and neonates
-Strong communication skills as a collaborator and facilitator

-1 year of Leadership experience in a health care setting
-Knowledge of Cerner
-Intermediate computer skills with Microsoft, PowerPoint and Excel
-Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN)
-Lactation Consultant Training
