Job Description

Rutherford Regional Health System

Provides direct patient care to patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.

Essential Functions

Performs assessment of patients including obtaining medical information and vital signs.

Performs clinic procedures ordered by provider accurately following current policy and procedure manuals.

 Assures that patient is properly prepared for special procedures and physical examinations in accordance with current policy and procedures manuals.

Recognizes normal and abnormal lab values and x-rays, communicates abnormalities to physician and applies

Reviews charts for provider orders prior to patient leaving the clinic and keeps provider informed of patient needs, problems, and activities. Completes testing requisitions and instructs patients as required by the provider's orders.

Ensures accurate and timely documentation of assessment dates and changes in the patient's condition on progress notes. Maintains patient information in computer system. Schedules appointments as needed.

 Includes date, time and signature on each individual entry in the patient's progress notes and on the narcotic sheet.

 Charts PRN medication results.

Reports suspected drug incompatibilities to physician.

Provides patient with appropriate education regarding procedures, diet, and medications ordered by the physician, and documents.

Administers and monitors State Vaccine For Children Program.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education
 Associate’s Degree in Nursing required
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred

Required Skills

 Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.


Basic Life Support (BLS) required

Required Skills

Licenses: Current RN license to practice in NC (NC licensure or multi-state (compact) license).

Minimum Work Experience
 1-3 years preferred and recent physician practice care experience within past 3 years preferred
