Job Description

Person Memorial Hospital

Positions patient to give best exposure for surgical procedure, using stabilizing equipment when necessary, while maximizing patient comfort and safety.
Provides visualization of the operative site using appropriate method, including manipulation of tissue and materials, retraction, sponging, suctioning, and irrigation.
Utilizes appropriate technique to achieve temporary and permanent hemostasis.
Assists with body plane closure, application of wound dressings, and securing of drainage systems.
Provide, inspection, decontamination, assembly and sterilization of instruments and other patient care equipment daily in accordance with processing guidelines, and TJC and AAMI requirements.
Operate, departmental equipment daily according to instructions with emphasis being on safety.
Plan, schedule and coordinate daily work activities in a timely and efficient manner.
Stock the processing area as needed and according to standards.
Check all sterile supplies and equipment daily using chemical, biological and mechanical indicators to verify sterility.
Answer calls to sterile processing in the appropriate manner.
Follow through on processing requests promptly
Maintain general cleanliness and orderliness in the processing area on a daily basis.
Other duties and/or tasks as requested.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education

High School Diploma or GED Equivalent is required.

Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Must possess ability to communicate verbally and in writing, plan and organize work flow, work cooperatively with others and independently, and handle surgical control system.
Preferred 2 years OR experience.
Successfully completed a n accredited scrub technician program.
Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) is required before the start of first independent assignment.
