Haywood Regional Medical Center

Dispenses medications, I.V. admixtures, and other preparations to patients according to written orders from physicians.  Provides drug information to other health care professionals.  Assists Pharmacy Director with the purchasing of pharmaceuticals.  Communicates with other health care professionals about medication doses, interactions, indications and warnings.  Evaluates the appropriateness of medication orders in regard to age, weight, and gender and communicates to the ordering physician and other health care professionals as appropriate.

The Staff Pharmacist must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.  The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's / area's / department's policies and procedures.

•         Manages drug therapy protocols as a part of an interdisciplinary team

•         Review, interprets and evaluates medication orders to identify, prevent and resolve potential or actual drug related problems

•         Provides drug information and education to medical staff and patients

•         Documents interventions and their outcomes for use in the drug therapy quality improvement efforts

Job Requirements

Education and Training: Must possess a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in pharmacy and be licensed in the State of North Carolina.

Experience and training:  Hospital pharmacy experience preferred but not required.   Must be familiar with the clinical and professional aspects of the practice of pharmacy.  Must be able to demonstrate accuracy when entering and verifying orders for medications, I.V. admixtures, and other preparations.  Must be knowledgeable about Federal and State laws governing the practice of pharmacy. Must be able to evaluate medication orders and dosing for appropriateness considering the age, weight, gender, and disease state of patients.  Must be experienced in preparation methods for pharmaceuticals.
