Job Description

Georgetown Community Hospital

Under the general direction of the Director of Respiratory, provides

  1. Treatment
  2.  Management
  3.  Diagnostic testing
  4.  Control and care of patients, with deficiencies and abnormalities associated with the cardiopulmonary system under the direction of a physician. 
  5. Respiratory care services and education to patients from infancy to advanced age within the medical plan of care and established departmental standards. 
  6. Identifies technical problems and makes corrections.  Serves as a resource regarding theory, pathophysiology, and patient assessment. 
  7. Refers significant concerns to supervisor, nursing staff and/or physician as necessary. 

Compliant with all regulatory requirements.

Involves general guidance and direction by Department Director.  The Respiratory Therapist is expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures within Scope of Practice.

Requires corrected hearing and vision to within functional ranges.  Requires frequent bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and sufficient manual dexterity to operate therapeutic equipment.  Must be able to stand for long periods at a time.  Good mental and physical health to work for long periods of time in a highly stressful atmosphere is required.

Job Requirements

1.       Licensure / Certification / Registration: KY Board of Respiratory Care Registered. Current BCLS.

2.       Education:  Completion of an educational program in respiratory Care. 2 yr certificate, associate degree, and or baccalaureate degree.

3.       Experience:  Successful completion of an orientation program.

4.       Special Qualifications:  Good communication skills; computer skills helpful; ability to work with others as a team to ensure quality patient care. 

On-Call Availability:  Will accept on call assignments for regularly scheduled shifts and be available to report to facility within 30 minutes of notification.  This status will be determined by therapist on duty.
