Minimum Education

High School graduate or equivalent required

Registered or registry eligible by ARDMS or ARRT in Ultrasonography and/or Echocardiography

BLS required

Required Skills

Must be proficient in general/OB-GYN/vascular ultrasound. Experience in echocardiography preferred.

Ability to work varied shifts and take call on a rotating schedule required.

Ability to motivate personnel, problem-solve effectively and handle stress in a positive manner.

Maintain harmonious relationships with nursing personnel, medical staff, hospital administration, and all hospital departments.

Essential Functions

Able to perform all essential General, OB, Small Parts, Special Procedure and Vascular Ultrasound procedures per protocol for all age groups including: infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

Interacts professionally with patients, patient’s family, physicians, physician’s offices, and other departments throughout the hospital to ensure the appropriate and highest quality of patient care.

Maintains Continuing Education credits as required by ARDMS or ARRT.

Reports to work on time as scheduled.

Is familiar with the RIS and PACS systems.

Monitors departmental activities to ensure accuracy and efficiency of procedures.

Provides care appropriate to the condition and age of the patient.

Is familiar with and follows HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality.

Must have excellent customer relations skills.

Reading and vision required to interpret requisition, set up equipment, interpret and manipulate on-screen commands.

Functional Demands

Work requires physical ability such as walking, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting heavy objects/patients (patients 300+ pounds), stooping and climbing stairs.

Walking intermittently through halls of hospital and outside.

Involves mental activity and problem-solving, to include the ability to implement solutions.

May be exposed to injury by irrational or disturbed patients, patients with communicable diseases, and/or potentially dangerous equipment.

Risk of exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous materials.

Exposure to blood, body fluid and hazardous wastes is moderate to frequent and must carry out universal precautions according to hospital policy.

Bending required frequently, 45-90 degree angles, to check patients, to operate machinery.

Speech, hearing, reading, writing and visual acuity necessary in order to perform job requirements.

Work involves potential exposure to ionizing radiation.
