This position is responsible for registering all inpatient, outpatients, emergency and surgical patients for services.  These duties include interviewing patients for demographic and insurance information and inputting this information into the system.  Collection of co-pays and deductibles, answering phones and directing patients.  The Admissions Clerk is the initial contact most patients have with the hospital.  The Admission Clerk's role is to create a sense of caring and a congenial atmosphere for the patients.  

Understands and uses the HMS, Patient Accounting systems along with any web based applications and uses them appropriately. Obtains accurate demographic and insurance information according to hospital procedures.  Maintains a registration accuracy rate of 95% or above.  Obtains relevant information for ensuring payment.  Completes all necessary questionnaires i.e., Medicare secondary payor and obtains signatures on all required admissions forms and consents.  Keeps Admissions Team Lead or PFSD apprised of any potential problems in the Admissions/PBX department. Obtains and scans all indentification and insurance cards.  Clearly documents all actions taken for resolving accounts including offers of prompt pay discounts in the system notes.Understands and follows appropriate down time procedures.  Follows the correct protocol for patient prompt pay discounts. 

Job Requirements

High School graduate or GED (Preferred) Accurate typing skills and basic experience with computers.Ability to communicate and comprehend accurately and effectively in written and spoken EnglishAbility to perform math calculations accurately: percentage rates, discounts, payments, etc.Must possess high quality, positive interpersonal skills.Able to work with a moderate level of noise and interruptions.Ability to discuss financial matters in detail over the phone and spending long periods of time on the telephone, speaking to people.
