Job Description

UP Health System - Marquette

Directsfunctions and activities of Pharmacy Department including both inpatient andoutpatient activities.


1. Maintains establishedhospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performanceimprovement program, safety, environment of care, management of information,and infection control standards.

2. Selects, trains/orients, and assigns departmentstaff (either directly or through subordinate supervisor).  Develops standards of performance, evaluatesperformance, and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions.

3. Develops department goals and objectives, andestablishes and implements policies and procedures for department operations.

4. Develops and recommends department operatingbudget and ensures that department operates within budget.

5. Directs the preparation and maintenance ofdepartment reports. Prepares periodic reports for senior management, asrequired.

6. Develops and implements the performanceimprovement program for the Pharmacy Department.

7. Assures compliance with federal and state lawand accrediting and licensing agencies as appropriate to department.


8. Integrates departmental services with theorganization’s primary functions andcoordinates with other department/services in a manner which fosters acollaborative environment for teamwork within the department and with otherdepartments/services.

9. Ensures and role models the delivery ofexcellent customer service.


10. May perform clinical duties as indicated in thePharmacist job description and competencies.


11. Secretary of Pharmacy and TherapeuticCommittee.  Participates in theinitiation, maintenance and control of hospital formulary system.

12. Evaluates programs to be implemented by thedepartment of Pharmacy.

13. Supervises/delegates department inventorycontrol.

14. Performsother related duties as assigned or requested.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education:


•   Bachelor ofScience Degree - Pharmacy

Preferred Education:


•   Master ofScience Degree


•   Pharmacy/Masterof Business Administration

Minimum Experience:


•   5 yrsprogressive responsibility or advanced degree with 2 yrs hospital experience

Other Skills:


•   Keyboard


•   Pharmacycomputer use

Req. Certification/Registration:


•   StateLicense/Eligible in Pharmacy
