Under general supervision, but according to established procedure, tracks worker compensation illnesses and injuries as necessary.  Assists PA/MD with obtaining vital signs, physical exams, drawing of blood, and performs minor treatment under the supervision of the Occupational Health PA/MD, including injections.  Responsible for contacting employers, employees, and insurance companies regarding ongoing care of patients' work related injury.  May need to assist drug tester with obtaining drug test specimens, PFTs, and alcohol tests.  The Medical Office Assistant must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.  The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's / area's / department's policies and procedures.

Job Requirements

Education and Training:  High school graduate or equivalent.  Graduate of an approved Medical Assisting Program.  Medical Assistant certification preferred.

Experience:  Computer skills necessary in order to maintain appropriate records such as tracking reports, etc.  Filing skills necessary in order to sort and file material according to established procedure, follow-up on records, prepare statistical reports, etc.
