The Advance Practice Nurse (APN) functions in an expanded professional nursing role with a collaborating physician.   The APN evaluates, diagnoses, clinically monitors and manages patients at Jackson Purchase Medical Center utilizing advanced assessment skills and knowledge of clinical therapeutics. 
  • Observes professional ethics in maintaining confidential information concerning the financial, personal, and medical or employment status of patients/families at JPMC.
  • Must follow and enforce accepted safety practices for patients and hospital.
  • Must report safety hazards and initiate appropriate action.
  • Must participate in safety instructional programs.
  • Utilizes advanced assessment skills and knowledge of clinical therapeutics to evaluate, diagnose and manage patients
  • Orders appropriate diagnostic tests, therapeutic interventions and prescribes pharmacological agents as necessary.            
  • Maintains continuity of patient care through patient follow-up, monitoring of patient progress and modifying plan of care as necessary.
  • Applies knowledge of new technology and resources demonstrating advanced or specialized expertise.
  • Educates patients regarding specific diagnoses, management of patient healthcare and follow-up.
  • Identifies needed resources and coordinates referrals, as appropriate, to physicians, other professionals or community agendas.
  • Uses research findings as a basis for clinical practice and disseminates current clinical research to colleagues.  Participates in clinical research studies as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates competency in the management of emergency situations, performing in a calm, professional manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

 
Must be a Kentucky state licensed Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. Previous experience is preferred. BLS certification is required.
Basic required skills include; organizational, customer relations, math, grammar/spelling, typing, computer training, the ability to follow written and oral direction, and the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
