Swain Community Hospital

The Physical Therapist (PT) is a licensed professional who evaluates patients; plans and implements treatment plans based on the evaluation, and educates patients, families and staff.  He/She exercises initiative and judgement in delegating appropriate duties to support personnel and reevaluates and modifies treatment programs as necessary. He/She performs appropriate administrative duties and participates in educational programs as assigned or approved by the Rehabilitation Supervisor and/or Director of Rehabilitation Services.  Incumbent reports to Rehabilitation Supervisor and/or Director of Rehabilitation Services.  Incumbent supervises PT Assistants, students, and Rehab support personnel.

Job Requirements

A. License: Physical Therapy license in North Carolina 
B.  Experience: One year PT experience is preferred. 
C. Other Qualifications: 
1. maintain current NC Driver's License with motor vehicle record acceptable to system’s auto liability insurance carrier if required to drive on business.
2. BLS certification is required to be maintained.

Physically, the PT is required to assist in moving and lifting patients; to push/pull heavy objects (e.g. wheelchairs or stretchers); to stay on his/her feet for long periods; to bend and stoop; and to reach above shoulder height. Patients may vary in size from as little as 80 pounds to as large as 400 pounds and may be totally dependent in all aspects of daily living or relatively independent.  There is limited exposure to infectious materials and diseases.
