Job Description

UP Health System - Marquette

Provides radiation therapy/simulation to patients as prescribed by Physicians according to established standards and practices.

Job Requirements

1. Maintains established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement program, safety, environment of care, management of information, and infection control standards. (1,5)

2. Utilizes excellent customer service skills at all times. (1,5)

3. Complies with federal and state law and accrediting and licensing agencies at all times, to include but not limited to, JCAHO and federal compliance regulations. (1,5)

4. Delivers accurately the prescribed planned course of radiation therapy with minimal supervision. (1,2,3,4,5,8)

5. Observes patient for unusual reactions and events. (1,5)

6. Observes radiation safety measures for patient and personnel. (5)

7. Simulates patients according to Radiation Oncologist’s instruction. (1,2,3,4,5,8)

8. Fabricates immobilization devices, and blocks, custom blocks, bolus, etc. (1,2,4,5)

9. Maintains records of daily treatment and other records as required. (1,2,3,5)

10. Maintains quality assurance logs/data as assigned. (2)

11. Secures and maintains supplies as assigned. (2)

12. Reports erratic operation of equipment to the Director and the Radiation Physicist in a timely fashion. (5)

13. Attends departmental conferences and participates in chart rounds. (2)

14. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, and professional conferences. (5)

15. Participates and attends meetings and inservices as required and/or assigned. (5)

16. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. (5)


Minimum Education:

    •   Associates Degree – Accredited program in Radiologic Technology,

       and course in Radiation Therapy
Required Registration:

    •   Registered/registry eligible by ARRT and passes active license

       (current) as necessary

    •   Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Physical Demands:

    •   Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients

    •   Lifts supplies/equipment

    •   Frequent prolonged standing/walking

    •   Manual dexterity and mobility

MKAT Annually:
Working Conditions:

    •   Subject to electrical and radiant energy hazards

    •   Subject to injury from moving parts of equipment

    •   May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases

    •   Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances

    •   Subject to many interruptions

    •   Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries

    •   Occasionally exposed to radiation hazards
