Bolivar Medical Center


Examines patients with breathing-related conditions and conducts diagnostic testing. Consults with physicians to develop and implement a treatment plan for the patient. Performs physiotherapy and other treatments and teaches patients to use medications.

Duties Include But Are Not Limited To:

Measures lung capacity and analyzes blood samples using a blood gas analyzer.
Delivers and assesses response to ordered therapy per plan of care. Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate.
Evaluates respiratory care policies and procedures based on patient outcomes, current research, and best practices.
Responds to codes and calls for emergent assistance. Assesses patient condition and delivers appropriate treatment.
Educates the patient and family about the patient's illness and provides information about community support groups and other resources.
Monitors, receives, stocks, and distributes respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylinders.
Maintains storage areas with required supply levels and equipment.
Disassembles, cleans, and sterilizes equipment, and performs preventative maintenance and calibration of machines
Administers respiratory therapy treatments, understands the purpose of each and the possible side effects associated with each.
Documents all pertinent data on the patient’s medical record following completion of any service.
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the differences in techniques and treatment modalities as performed on patients of varying ages, including neonate, pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients, as well as the general patient population Completes annual education requirements.
Maintains regulatory requirements.
Adheres to the ES1 & BMC Caring Standards
Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.
Wears identification while on duty, uses computerized punch time system correctly. Attends at least 75% staff meetings annually.
Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement of the department.
Cooperates with other personnel to achieve departmental objectives, maintain good employee relations and interdepartmental objectives.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested

Job Requirements

Graduate of a School of Respiratory Therapy. Must have a current Mississippi Respiratory Therapist license. Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Must have an updated American Heart Association approved Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification. If employee does not have a current ACLS, PALS or NRP at time of hire or transfer, then employee will have six months from day of hire, or transfer, to obtain, or update, ACLS, PALS, or NRP certification. If employee does not have a current BLS at time of hire or transfer, then employee will have one month from day of hire, or transfer, to obtain, or update, BLS certification

Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages preferred. Strong written and verbal skills. Basic computer knowledge. Ability to use ABG machine, ventilators, IPPB, EKG, Aerosol TX’s, Standard Respiratory procedures. Ability to perform chest PT.
