Qualifications:

Education and Experience: 

Graduated from a school of nursing and have a current registered nurse license with the Virginia State Board of Nursing.

CPR certification is required.

Knows and practices good communication theory in clear, direct, concise and understandable written and oral form.  Is aware of non-verbal communication and makes appropriate use of it.

Ability to understand advanced theory and practice in nursing.

Familiarity with organization and function of each hospital department.

Ability to discern legal implications in nursing.

Leadership ability, integrity and initiative.

Ability to motivate personnel and problem-solve effectively.

Ability to maintain harmonious relationships with nursing personnel, medical staff and other hospital departments.

Responsibilities:

Function as a staff or charge nurse.

Supervise and coordinate care in a manner to ensure that patient needs are provided in an efficient manner and in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.

Possess the knowledge to safely apply theory and practice when providing, planning and assigning nursing care.

Provide excellent customer service including patient education.

Ability to work with all age groups including infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients.

Performs all nursing functions within the scope of practice in the State of Virginia.

Ability to work with Paragon applications (computer system).

Possess knowledge to use PYXIS medication delivery system.

Education – Uses the nursing process to meet patient/family learning needs.

Professionalism – Applies knowledge to practice through participation in performance improvement activities and application of nursing research.

Consistently communicates to co-workers, medical staff, ancillary departments and customers to promote a collaborative and cooperative environment.

Reliability – Ensures completion of assigned workloads and moves to unassigned work at own initiative.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Must be able to read and write to fulfill job description.

Must be able to talk, hear and listen in order to communicate with patients, families and other staff members.

Must be able to stand for long periods of time, two to three hours.

Must be able to sit for long periods of time, one to two hours, at the nurse’s station.

Must be able to climb stairs frequently.

Must be able to walk up and down hallways frequently.

Must be able to lift patients 300+ pounds waist high, with assistance.

Must be able to bend at waist, 45-90 degree angles.

May be exposed to irrational patients, family members or other healthcare members.

Moderate exposure to infectious disease.

Moderate exposure to hazardous materials.
