SOVAH Health - Martinsville

Provides diagnostic and therapeutic interventions on physician prescribed patients with acute and chronic cardio-pulmonary dysfunction, utilizing state of the art procedures and bio-medical equipment.  Must be able to perform therapeutic and diagnostic bronchoscopy including Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS), and Navigational Bronchoscopy.  Must demonstrate a clear ability and understanding of how to process slides for the Lab, and be able to properly demonstrate proper tissue handling and tissue preparation for Pathology.  Many services  will apply to all age groups, requiring the Respiratory Care Practitioner  to modify the therapeutic or diagnostic modality to the patients size and age/ or age group (Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult or Geriatric Patient) to attain the proper results. Able to function in high stress areas to include the surgical suite.  The individual Practitioner may be required to work up or down (flex time) to insure standardized coverage within the Cardio-Pulmonary Services Department. Practice in accordance with state and federal law and health care regulatory standards.

Job Requirements

Education:   Graduate of an approved Respiratory Care Program, with an A.A.S. degree, or Certification of Graduation
Experience:  One year of critical care experience, to include hemodynamic monitoring, bronchoscopy assistance, and mechanical ventilation set-up, management and patient care assessment.  One year of routine respiratory care experience required.  Graduation from an Associate Degree level program can be substituted for one year of experience. 
Skills:  Licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia, to practice as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.  Certification by the American Heart Association in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation Basic Life Support.  Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (RRT)
Typical Physical Demands:  Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual dexterity and eye and hand coordination.  Requires standing, walking, stooping and stretching.  Occasionally lifts (with assistance), carries and pushes items weighing up to 500 lbs.  (Mechanical ventilators, electrocardiographs, stretchers, and patient care carts).  Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.  Requires working under stressful conditions extended shifts.  Ability to be mobile and able to perform therapeutic and diagnostic bronchoscopies in Surgery, CCU, and CPNS departments.
